A Global Dialogue on the Future of Capitalism

An online program for MBA students and next-generation leaders, exploring the roles and responsibilities of business enterprises and their leaders, and the future of business education.

Save the dates: January 13 – April 21, 2026.

The Future of Capitalism is a global, multi-institutional learning initiative co-founded by IESE Business School (Spain) and Shizenkan University (Japan). The project brings together graduate and MBA students and emerging leaders from across the globe to explore how capitalism can evolve to meet the social, environmental, and ethical challenges of the 21st century and what the roles and responsibilities business enterprises and leaders should assume. The project aims to be a catalyst to change the global management paradigm.

Through interactive sessions with world-renowned scholars, business leaders, and activists, participants explore the fundamental questions shaping the future of business: What is the purpose of a corporation? How should companies balance profitability with societal impact? What are the responsibilities of business leaders and business schools in cultivating a more equitable, sustainable, and purpose-driven world?

The program offers a rare opportunity to engage with a global peer community, challenge conventional thinking, and gain insights from pioneering perspectives on topics such as purpose-driven management, circular economy, ESG and impact investing, and corporate value creation. Participants leave with fresh ideas, practical frameworks, and a renewed vision of the kind of leaders and organizations the world needs today and tomorrow.

What Our Students Say

This course has been one of the most impactful components of my MBA experience. It successfully bridges theory and practice, and offers a platform to rethink the role of business in society. It challenged my own assumptions about success, legacy, and leadership. Before this experience, I viewed sustainability as a strategic consideration—but now, I recognize it as a moral imperative.
Esteban Posadas Trejo
EGADE Business School, Mexico
What I found most interesting was discussing different economic frameworks, and challenging assumptions of both today's economic structure and the suggested models. I was somewhat surprised that most of the topics were on living within the boundaries of our planet. I am looking to work in sustainability and it being at the core of the discussions was exciting and inspiring.
Natalia Ospina
IESE Business School, Spain
I learned how capitalism can be reimagined to address pressing global challenges like inequality, climate change and how important is listening people so compromised with the future of our lives and economic system, and mainly, how essential is to do self-reflection about habits, lifestyle, beyond rethinking ingrained concepts. Each session was very inspiring and the course was very well organized.
Lea Farias Veicer Lima
Fundação Getulio Vargas, Brazil
It was a great chance to view how to reevaluate capitalism and employment structures. Learned how proactive policy changes, ethical governance, and a commitment to inclusive growth align with capitalism.
Vivek Sable
Graduate School of Leadership and Innovation Shizenkan University, Japan
While other courses have touched on similar themes, there was rarely the time or space to truly reflect on them, assignments and workload often took over. This course, however, created that space. It deepened my understanding of sustainability, challenged me to think differently, and demonstrated that profit with purpose is not only viable but can be a powerful competitive advantage in today’s business environment. Most importantly, it inspired me to rethink my own business approach, encouraging a mindset that balances ethical integrity with financial performance.
Altaaf Suleman
Gordon Institute of Business Science University of Pretoria, South Africa
Majorly, I witnessed that there exists a huge gap in understanding between the developing and developed nations. The course developed a mental benchmark in terms of responsible business practices and culture. As future leaders, having acquired the mindset might seem a small step but would in turn be a huge leap for the future when executed.
